With 35 years of experience in teaching and academic development, Cécile Blondel has dedicated her career to shaping the future of animation education. She is currently Director of the Master’s in Storytelling and Director of International Development at Gobelins, Paris, where she designs and implements training programmes that support the evolving needs of the animation industry.

Her career began in special effects, specializing in prosthetics, before transitioning to storytelling, first in the fields of history, memory, propaganda and mental representations, before expanding her focus to narrative structure across various forms of media, including animation. This shift led her to develop a strong focus on how story shapes animated content, and how education can best equip future storytellers to navigate an increasingly rich industry.

As a script doctor, she has worked on numerous Gobelins graduation short films, some of which have gone on to win Annie Awards and BAFTAs, further cementing the school’s reputation for excellence in animation storytelling.

She has taught extensively across Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia, contributing to the academic discourse on animation education and storytelling methodologies. A regular speaker at international festivals and conferences, she addresses topics such as pedagogical innovation, the challenges of professionalizing young creators, and the evolving role of storytelling in animated media
